Background Image

This image was used as the background image for compositing a bike shot in a white background(blue screen). The light source(i.e. Sun light) seems  to be right over. This picture was shot from inside a cave like structure where there is less light effect when compared to the structure which the photographer was interested in.

Blue Screen(here white background) Image

This is the image that was got from a website. I couldn't shoot a blue screen set up shot cos' I don' have a digi-camera. When I came to know that the CS Dept,Clemson University had one, it was too late to shoot one. Hence this picture . As far as my understanding about the word "blue screen" is concerned, it is a scene shot in which the background is needless. Only the action taking place in front of a uniformly coloured screen(usually blue, sometimes green and red) is important. Since I couldn't get any picture from the web with a coloured background, I chose this.

Mask or Matte Image

The matte was made by picking the white background region surrounding the bike and the white region in between the wheels. The selected white background region was cut and pasted on a new layer. In the new layer, the remaining area(bike area) was painted black. The layer was then inverted. The result was the matte image.

Final Image

The rock in front of the bike's rear wheel was cut out, the bike was pasted onto the background scene, the color, contrast, brightness and lighting factors for the bike were manipulated to make the bike sink into the background. Atlast, the cut rock was put again in its original position, so that, it seems as if the bike is parked behind the rock. The lighting effect was made close to perfection. The special thing to note here is the scene behind the bike can be seen though the gap in between the forks of the front wheel.
